This policy explains what Herbarist collects, why, how long it is kept, and how you can control or delete it. Herbarist is operated by Calexis Labs. It applies to the Herbarist mobile apps for iOS and Android and this website.
Who we are
Herbarist is a plant identification and plant-care companion operated by Calexis Labs. For any privacy question, contact us at support@herbarist.app.
What we collect
We collect only what the app needs to do its job:
- Account identity. When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive a stable account identifier and basic profile details (such as name and email) provided by that sign-in. We use this to create and secure your account.
- Plant photos you upload. The images you capture for identification and for your Growth Journey.
- Plant, care, and Journey data. Species results, nicknames, health notes, care schedules, reminders, and the progress entries you add.
- Subscription evidence. Purchase and entitlement records used to verify an active Premium subscription. Payments themselves are handled by Apple or Google — we never receive your card details.
- Technical logs. Limited diagnostic and security logs (for example error events and abuse-prevention signals) needed to operate the service reliably.
Device permissions
- Camera. Used only to capture the photos you choose to take for identification and progress updates. Herbarist does not access your camera in the background.
- Notifications. Used only to send the care reminders you opt into. You can turn these off at any time in your device settings.
How your data is processed and who processes it
Herbarist sends your requests to our own backend, which coordinates the services below. The mobile app does not talk to third-party AI providers directly.
- Cloud platform (authentication, database, storage): [Supabase — confirm before publishing]. Stores your account, plant data, and uploaded photos.
- Plant identification & care analysis: the Herbarist identification service [confirm final provider(s) before publishing]. Receives the photos you submit to return a species estimate, a confidence level, and care guidance.
- App stores: Apple and Google process all payments and manage your subscription. We only receive the verification result.
The exact list of processors will be finalised and kept consistent with our Google Play Data Safety and Apple App Privacy answers before public launch.
How long we keep it & how it's deleted
We keep your account and content for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your personal data — including uploaded photos, plant, care, and Growth Journey data, and your entitlement records — from active systems within 30 days, and from routine backups shortly after.
We may retain a limited amount of data where the law requires it (for example, records needed for tax or fraud-prevention purposes), and only for as long as required. See Account Deletion for how to start the process.
Your rights
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, and you can object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these, email support@herbarist.app. We do not sell your personal data or use it for advertising.
Children
Herbarist is not directed to children under the age required by your local law or the app stores, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update this page and revise the date above. Continued use of Herbarist after an update means you accept the revised policy.
